INTERVIEW WITH PHOTOGRAPHER BRYCE HALL & FILMMAKER TY RICKARD, "OCEAN WAY COLLECTIVE"
What drives you to be a photographer/videographer?
At Ocean Way Collective, we are driven by storytelling and the idea that we can play a large role in such a defining chapter of someone’s life. It brings us great joy that we have the ability to beautifully capture & craft story driven films as well as beautifully curated wedding albums for our clients. We are also drawn to the ocean and its beauty. It brings us unspeakable joy to know that something we created can freeze the most incredible emotions in time so that people can relive them for years to come.
At Ocean Way Collective, while our job is capturing wedding photos & video, we also largely feel like we have a responsibility to protect our beautiful and endangered oceans. Because of this, we love to use our talents to make money that we can channel into charities which aim to restore and protect our oceans and beautiful marine life around Australia.
Tell us about your brand and Things you've learned along the way?
Our brand makes up a large part of who we are and the type of people we work with. We’ve thoughtfully and intentionally branded our company to be a more fun & laid back wedding service to the traditional industry standard. Because of this, we name all of our photo & video packages after cocktails to keep with our summer & beach theme. For example; our 6h packages are called ‘Pina Colada packages’, our 8h packages are called ‘Daiquiri packages’ and our 10h packages are called ‘Margarita packages.’ For anyone who chooses to book us for both photo & video we call those our ‘Double Shot Packages.’
We want to portray our brand as laid back and that people can actually have an amazing wedding day, it doesn't have to be boring and traditional. It really can be just a huge party!
What does a day in your life look like?
A day in the life of Ocean Way is not for the ordinary! While we have so much fun doing what we do, there is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes.
If it’s a weekend we’re usually off in an incredible location shooting some of the most amazing weddings!
Our weekly day to day often is filled with; editing wedding films and photos, doing client zoom meetings to check up on our couples or chat to new enquiries, or plotting exciting content that we’d love to film for our brand! We’re always working on new ideas and solving new problems. At this point in time, growing our content to the next level is so important to us and leaving a lasting mark.
What’s next for 'Ocean Way collective'? Any exciting news on the horizon?
Where do I begin? There’s so many exciting things that people can expect from us & our brand that I honestly don’t even know where to start! Firstly and probably most importantly, we believe the growing demand for consuming video content is at an all time high currently. Because of this, we’re currently in the works on some special, weekly content never seen before in the wedding industry! Without spoiling too much, we’re planning on bringing more info to couples on how to plan the perfect day and even more value into an already incredible industry.
As we’ve just completed our major rebrand, we’re looking towards creating an even more desirable experience for our customers and delivering a finishing product that couples can be proud of. Within 2023 we’re going full steam ahead, shooting more weddings than ever before, whilst bringing even more value too!!
